Anxiety Therpy in Clapham & Wimbledon

Cozy corner with a dark armchair, glass table, and vibrant pink orchids.

You might be here because your mind doesn't switch off.

Because you find yourself overthinking conversations, replaying things or worrying about what might happen next.

Or because your body feels constantly on edge – tense, restless, or suddenly overwhelmed for reasons you can't always explain.

You might look like you're coping on the outside, but inside it feels like something is always "on".

This is often how anxiety shows up.

What anxiety actually is

Anxiety isn't a flaw or weakness.

It's your nervous system trying to keep you safe.

It scans for threat, anticipates problems, and tries to prepare you – often long before anything has actually happened.

That can be helpful in small doses and certain situations.

But when it becomes constant, it can feel exhausting... and hard to switch off.

How anxiety can show up

Anxiety doesn't look the same for everyone.

It might show up as:

  • Constant overthinking and 'what if' thoughts
  • Feeling on edge and unable to relax
  • Panic attacks or sudden waves of overwhelm
  • Difficulty sleeping or switching your mind off
  • People – pleasing or worrying about how you're percieved by others
  • Avoiding situations that feel too much
  • A sense that something isn't quite right – even when things are "fine'

These aren't signs something is wrong with you.

They're signs your system is working overtime to protect you.

Why it keeps going

Often anxiety persists because the strategies your mind uses to cope – like worrying, analysing or avoiding – actually keep the cycle going.

For example,

  • Overthinking can feel like problem-solving but it keeps your mind in a loop and focused on the very thing you are afraid of.
  • Avoidance can bring short-term relief, but make situations feel bigger over time.
  • Try to "push anxiety away" can make it come back stronger.

In therapy, we gently start to understand these patterns – not to get rid of anxiety, but to change your relationship with it.

How therapy can help

In anxiety therapy, we don't just focus on managing symptoms.

We look at the patterns that keep anxiety going – and gently learn how to respond differently.

This often includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which are widely use evidence-based approaches for anxiety.

This might involve:

  • Understanding how thoughts, feelings and behaviours interact.
  • Noticing patterns like overthinking, avoidance and reassurance seeking.
  • Learning how to step back from anxious thoughts, rather than getting pulled into them.
  • Gradually approaching situations that feel difficult, at a pace that feels manageable.
  • Building a different relationship with anxiety, so it feels less overwhelming and more manageable.

Alongside this, we may explore underlying experiences that shaped these patterns – helping you make sense of why your system responds the way it does.

Where appropriate, we can integrate other approaches such as Parts-Based Therapy and EMDR, to support deeper processing.

If you're thinking about therapy
