Trauma therapy in CLAPHAM & Wimbledon

You might be here because something happened that still doesn't feel resolved.

Or because nothing obvious happened.. but something in you doesn't quite settle.

You might find yourself overthinking, shutting down, reacting more strongly than you want to - or feeling disconnected altogether.

This is often how trauma shows up.

What trauma actually is

Trauma isn't just about what happened.

It's about what your system had to do to cope - and what it's still trying to do now.

Sometimes that looks like flashbacks, nightmares and intrusive thoughts about a distressing experience.

But sometimes it can take different forms, like:

Anxiety

Emotional overwhelm

Numbness, people pleasing or constantly feeling on edge for no specific reason.

These responses aren't signs that something is wrong with you.

They're signs your system adapted.

Parts - Based Therapy

In trauma therapy, we often begin by understanding the different parts of you.

The part that pushes things down

The part that has to be perfect

The part that overthinks

The part that reacts quickly

The part that criticises you

These are 'problems' to get rid of.

They're parts of you that have been trying to help in the only way they know how.

As we get to know these parts and respond to them with compassion, things often start to make more sense– and feel less overwhelming.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)

Some clients choose to work with EMDR, which is a structured approach that helps the brain process experiences that feel 'stuck' and still active in the clients nervous system.

We would only use this when it feels appropriate and at a pace that works for you.

You can read more about EMDR therapy here.

If you're thinking about therapy

You don't need to have everything figured out before starting therapy.

We can begin wherever you are – and work out what feels important, together.

If this feels like the kind of support you're looking for, you're welcome to get in touch.
